Great news awaits nature and environment enthusiasts! Tourists will soon have the opportunity to spend a night in a treehouse nestled within the Phato Eco Tourism Zone, a part of the RamNagar Forest Division Terai West. Additionally, the introduction of online permits for day safaris will make the experience even more convenient.
The proposal to allow overnight stays in the treehouse after a day of safari within the Phato Eco Tourism Zone is currently awaiting government approval. The Phato Zone administration has forwarded this proposal and requested the government to establish the rates for these night stays. Furthermore, the system for online booking, similar to that of Corbett Park, will be implemented for the Phato Zone. Until now, tourists have had to obtain permits through offline means, often leading to long queues and inconvenience.
The Phato Tourism Zone has rapidly gained popularity among tourists visiting Corbett National Park. This zone offers tourists the opportunity to closely observe wildlife in its natural habitat. The enthusiasm of visitors is reflected in the fact that the revenue department recorded over 1 crore in revenue from January 2022 to October of the same year—within a span of just 10 months. In light of this success, Terai Western is planning to introduce even more modern facilities in the zone.
Providing further details, Prakash Arya, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Terai Western, announced that online booking, similar to the system in place at Corbett Park, will soon be initiated in the Phato Zone. He emphasized that tourists have been experiencing challenges due to long queues while obtaining permits. Currently, the Phato Zone boasts two treehouses, and the forest department is actively working on establishing rates for night stays. Additionally, a proposal to construct two additional treehouses is being prepared for submission to the government. Arya assured that once the rates are finalized, tourists will be able to relish the unique experience of staying in the treehouses within the Phato Zone.
